Nail Washer Dispenser

Pneumatic nail guns are commonly used in the construction industry, but when used on foam board or tarpaper, a plastic washer must be attached on the nail to prevent the nail head from pushing through the substrate. The washer holding device shown in these drawings, attaches to a standard Hitachi nail gun and inserts a plastic washer on a nail at a rate of four per second.

Design Criteria

• 99.9% performance accuracy.
• Must be well balanced.
• Quick loading was an important feature.
• Must be durable enough to drop 20 feet and still function.
• A fully functional model was required eight weeks after starting the project.
